NCFE LEVEL 1 AWARD IN EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

15 year 9 students have been working with NUFC this week. The two day course with 1 day held at St James Park will count towards a Level 1 Qualification in Employability Skills.

Students were faced with the following tasks:

Understanding Personal Finance
Job & Training Search Skills

Laugh in the Face of Exams

Tree of Knowledge returned to ASC, in the last week of term. Yr 11 students spent 2 hours with TOK discussing exam strategies and ways in which to deal with stress and revision. As always the session was very positive with students leaving feeling positive and enthusiastic about the upcoming examinations.

Update from World Studies

Remembering the First World War

35 Year 10 and 11 students recently visited the First World War Battlefields of Belgium. Over a long weekend in March, the students learnt about the war in museums and at the sites of battles. They even walked through some of the trenches where Hitler had fought as an ordinary soldier nearly 100 years ago. The students also took parts in acts of remembrance at both the German and British cemeteries. The students were a real credit to the college and their community. Their respectful attitude at the cemeteries greatly impressed the staff who accompanied them.

Race to the skies

GCSE History students have been learning about the economic boom in the USA in the 1920s. As part of their revision the students have been competing to build their own 1920s skyscraper. Just like in the 1920s the prizes go to the tallest and the most eye catching!

 

Exploding volcanoes

Students in Year 7 have been investigating volcanoes as part of their World Studies lessons. The students learnt about life in the Roman city of Pompeii that was destroyed by a volcano. They also looked at the different types of volcanoes around the world and the different threats and opportunities they present. However, the highlight of the lessons involved the students building and exploding their own volcanoes. The World Studies department would like to thay Miss Cole for her help in building the towering volcanoes!
